Clear conflicts and open matters without the email chase.
Conflion gives a law firm one place to take in new work. Lawyers send a request and see exactly what it is waiting on. The conflicts team decides every hit with the reason in front of them. The matter opens with its number, folders and billing record, and the whole trail is kept.
No more "where is my request?"
Every request shows the step it is on, who has it and how long it has been there. Lawyers look instead of asking.
Your data stays yours
Conflion runs on the firm's own server and signs people in with the firm's Microsoft 365 accounts. Nothing leaves unless an administrator turns it on.
AI that suggests, never decides
An optional model on the firm's own hardware proposes a decision and helps draft. A conflicts analyst or lawyer makes the call, every time.
Walls that hold
A screened person is never sent the walled matter at all, in the app or the API. Every change lands in a tamper-evident audit trail.
Eight steps from "can we take this?" to a billable matter.
No step waits in someone's inbox. Each one names what it needs and who has it.
Quick check
A lawyer sends just the names, or pastes the email and lets Conflion pull the parties out. Results come back in minutes. If the work goes ahead, the check becomes the intake and nothing is retyped.
New business intake
Client, matter, parties, practice area, offices, lawyers, fees and the firm's own questions, in short steps. Possible conflicts appear beside each party as it is typed, so surprises show up before the request is sent.
Conflicts search
Every party is checked against clients, adverse parties, corporate families, former and prospective clients, declined matters, pending requests and lawyers' declared relationships. Each search gets a permanent number the firm can cite.
Conflicts review
Hits arrive grouped by party and ranked by risk, each with its reason and any earlier decision on the same name. The team decides, asks lawyers for clearance, records waivers and raises walls from one screen.
Approvals
The request follows the firm's own route: practice group leader, finance, general counsel for restricted or high-risk work. An approver with a declared interest is routed around automatically, and both people are told.
Matter opened
The matter gets its client and matter number, new parties join the database, the billing record is prepared and the folders are created in the document system.
Billing on hold
Work can start, but bills cannot go out until the signed engagement letter and waivers are uploaded and every conflicts item is closed. The matter says so plainly.
After opening
Tasks, notes and the timeline live on the matter. When the firm's data changes, Conflion re-checks the parties and flags any new hit nobody has reviewed. Closing records a retention date.
One system for the whole job, so nothing falls between tools.
Intake, conflicts, approvals, waivers, walls, laterals and matter opening, built together rather than bolted on.
Conflicts search
- Finds a name however it was typed: misspellings, sound-alikes, nicknames, aliases, former names and half-finished words.
- Follows corporate families up to the ultimate parent and back down, and personal links such as spouses and officers.
- Standard, Boolean and batch searches on one page. Paste a hundred names and each line is checked as you go.
- Warns when a name was searched recently, and shows every earlier search on it.
- Screens new parties against the OFAC list and any list the firm loads.
Intake
- Short guided steps with a live conflicts preview, so the requester sees trouble before the conflicts team does.
- Quick checks from a pasted email, with the parties found for the requester to confirm.
- Pro bono intake with its own eligibility questions and numbering.
- The firm's own questions, added by an administrator without programming and shown only where they apply.
- Practice screens for health care, cannabis, an insurer as client, public bodies and political work.
Review and approvals
- Each hit carries its risk, its reason and the earlier decisions on that name. Decide one at a time or in bulk, with notes.
- Clearance requests go to the responsible lawyer. Lawyers' relationship disclosures appear as FYIs.
- Approval routes follow the firm's rules, with deadlines, overdue flags and delegates.
- A conflicts report for the lawyer, downloadable as PDF.
State conflict rules
- Set the firm's home state and the other states it works in once. Each office carries its own.
- Waiver wording, engagement letter checks and lateral screening follow the rules of the matter's state.
- Rule profiles for 18 states and D.C., with the ABA Model Rules everywhere else.
Waivers, letters and walls
- Waiver drafts reach the reviewing lawyer as a task and stay editable until they sign off.
- A letter or waiver counts as signed only when a person uploads the signed copy and names who signed. Conflion never signs for anyone.
- Ethical walls are enforced by the server. Screened people see what they need and nothing more.
- Lateral hire questionnaires and screens stay confidential to the people who need them.
Matter workspace and records
- Client, matter and party pages with the key facts up top and a timeline below.
- Tasks, notes, mentions and documents on the matter itself.
- Change monitoring that lists any new hit nobody has looked at.
- Reports, a full audit log and a test firm with made-up data for training new staff.
It suggests. A person decides.
The AI in Conflion is optional and advisory. It runs on the firm's own hardware, so client names stay inside the firm.
- Pulls the parties out of a pasted email so the requester only has to confirm them.
- Proposes a decision and a reason for each hit, clearly marked as a suggestion to check.
- Helps draft conflicts summaries, waiver letters and engagement terms for a lawyer to edit.
- Never decides, never signs and never sends anything. The audit trail records who accepted each suggestion.
- Everything works with the AI switched off. Search, ranking and summaries do not depend on a model.
- Why it matched
- Ultimate parent of Meridian Solar LLC, the adverse party.
- Relationship
- Current client, 2 open matters, Corporate.
- Rule
- Direct adversity to a current client. Informed written consent needed.
- Earlier decisions
- Cleared once in 2025 with a waiver (NBI-0871).
Built around one rule: a screened person never sees a walled matter.
Conflion holds privileged data, so the design starts from that rule. These controls are in the product today, not on a roadmap.
Sign-in through the firm
Microsoft 365 accounts with Entra ID, so multi-factor and device rules follow the firm's own policy. No separate passwords to manage.
Walls enforced on the server
Walled matters are removed before anything reaches a screened person's browser. Wall text is redacted and ids are masked, in the app and in the API.
Tamper-evident audit trail
Every change is recorded with who, what and when in an append-only log with a hash chain, so edits or deletions show.
AI stays inside
The model runs on the firm's hardware at a fixed address. Prompts are boxed, the model has no tools, and its output never decides anything.
Nothing leaves by default
Outside connections, including any hosted AI service, are off until an administrator turns them on, and each external call is logged.
Hardened public forms
Client intake and waiver consent links use high-entropy codes, rate limits and expiry, and never echo conflicts results back.
Your IT lead or penetration tester can have the full security document on request. It says what each control does and what it does not.
Keep your billing system. Keep your document system.
Conflion exchanges clients, matters and billing status with the billing system, creates the matter's folders in the document system when it opens, and brings in the party and matter history you already have.
Running it
- On the firm's own server with PostgreSQL, or as a desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux that connects to it or runs the whole thing on one computer.
- One-click setup, and a System status page that shows every connection and check at a glance.
- A new person is working in minutes: a test firm with made-up data, role walkthroughs, quick answers and printable quick-start sheets.
- Migration tools bring party, matter and search history across from the conflicts database you use today.
From 1 to 200+ attorneys. A small-firm version too.
Designed around the way a mid-size firm actually opens matters, and load-tested well past it.
The help cat who shows new staff around.
Newton sits on the next-step button and in the Help drawer. Ask him what a screen is for and he tells you in plain words, then gets out of the way.
- Off until the firm turns him on. Anyone can hide him for themselves.
- Never says cleared, approved or waivable, and stays off the hit, wall and approval screens.
- Walks a new person through one matter, start to finish, in short scenes they can pick from a menu.
See it on your kind of matter.
Send a line about your firm and the systems you use. You get back a time for a live walkthrough and a demo to try on your own.
hello@conflion.appWhat a walkthrough covers
- One matter from quick check to opening, on a fictional firm.
- How your approval routes, intake questions and states would be set up.
- How your current party and matter history would come across.
- What your IT team needs to run it, plus the security document.
